About the Santa Anita Chapter
There were 20 charter members when Santa Anita Chapter was organized on April 15, 1950. One charter member, Anna Fisher Wallace, was a member of the chapter for more than 50 years before her death in 2002. On September 21, 2002, Santa Anita Chapter members attended the dedication ceremony of a DAR grave marker on the monument of Anna Wallace.

More than 20 women have served as Santa Anita Chapter Regents during the years since 1950. Among our current chapter membership, there are a number of past Regents and members who went on to leadership positions at the District or State level of DAR.

Our membership is comprised primarily of women residing in Arcadia and the surrounding communities, as well as some long-distance members who maintain ties to this chapter. Our chapter includes adult women of all ages. Many of our members are educators, either present or retired. Most of our members are involved in local communities as volunteers: in libraries, museums, schools, or religious organizations.

Our programs have featured guest speakers as well as interesting presentations by our own talented members. Please contact us for membership information.

Chapter Projects

Education
The Santa Anita Chapter supports NSDAR's schools in the Appalachian region by collecting Campbell's, Swanson, and other product labels. The schools can obtain a variety of educational equipment and supplies for these items. We also collect cash donations for the NSDAR schools.

Conservation
The chapter is currently supporting the Eaton Canyon replanting effort in the local area, as well as the Penny Pines Project to help reseed our national forests.

Veterans and Patriotic Endeavors
We provide personal items and reading materials for patients at local veterans hospitals. Our chapter members also donate money to Project Patriot discussed below.

Project Patriot
NSDAR has adopted a ship, the USS John C. Stennis. To learn more about the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and Project Patriot, chosen as the official NSDAR project in support of America's worldwide war against terrorism, visit the Project Patriot Website. Donations have been used for the purchase of prepaid phone cards for our men and women aboard the USS John C. Stennis, for provision of small flashlights, and for purchase of exercise mats for all personnel. In the spring of 2005, a new project was undertaken - the support of the wounded active duty military personnel at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.
